Toys for CoCo

We went to a class at the Waterloo Center for the Arts and made CoCo a few toys.  Cale had a lot of fun and CoCo actually plays with all of the toys.

Random Goose Pictures

Oh, this kid.  He always keeps me on my toes and I never know what's coming next!

Making Gramma's present

Cale loved helping uncle Ryan make Gramma's birthday present.  Cale even got to use the chainsaw & drill.

Garden

Cale has been begging me to plant a garden...so we bought a raised planter and planted strawberries, snap peas, cucumbers, mint, parsley, regular tomatoes and cherry tomatoes.

School Carnival

Cale LOVED the school carnival.  He had so much fun!  We bought tickets and he got to do so many fun things....he had his palm read, face painted, dressed up, threw TP into a toilet, played in the bouncy houses, went fishing for prizes and so many other things.  I paid 2 tickets to put him in jail.

Gramma's Birthday

We spent the weekend in WI for gramma's birthday again this year.  Highlights of the trip:

  • The Durango went "swimming"....AKA we went on a ferry.
  • We bought real fireworks.
  • Morel mushroom festival!!
  • 2 nights in a hotel (including swimming)
  • A day at Circus World where we went to a magic show.  Cale volunteered to help and was asked to tell the audience a joke (he even had a microphone).  Cale: "Why did the turtle cross the road?".  Magician: "Why?".  Cale: looks at me....I say, "why buddy?"  He said, "I DON'T KNOW"....he completely forgot the answer and it was hilarious.
  • Going on a haunted mansion tour....with a spirit reader machine.  Cale kept asking when we were going to do this, I finally said, "if one more person says haunted mansion, we aren't going".  So then everyone said, "HM"....instead of haunted mansion.  The mansion was the original Ringling Brothers home.
  • Training ride in New Freedom.  My parents took me to this when I was little.  We toured the museum and then took a 45 minute train ride.  We got to sit in the caboose.  It was so much fun.
  • We couldn't decide where to eat, I noticed on the Garmin a Subway was a few miles away.  So, I said, "well, there's a subway".  Cale said, "Eat Fresh".  HILARIOUS!
  • We left the hotel Saturday morning to head to the mushroom festival....we went about 2 blocks and saw a fireworks store so I pulled in.  Cale said, "is this the hotel??".  We literally could still see the hotel we just left.
  • We bought a lot of candy at the Baraboo candy store.
  • Cale absolutely loved calling Gramma & Uncle Ryan's room at the hotel.

Birthday celebrations!

We spent the entire 1st weekend in May celebrating Cale's 6th birthday!  On Friday night we went to the school carnival.  Saturday morning started out at the Farmer's Market, then we headed out to Barn Happy (a birthday tradition...smoothie and all) where the entire store sang happy birthday and Cale got to dance with Kris again.

Next we went to the "Fun Day in the Country".  Cale got his face painted, planted a flower (it's still alive!), played on the new jungle gym, made a May-Day basket, watched a science experiment show and had a picnic under a tree.

Our next stop was at the Cinco De Mayo celebration in downtown Waterloo.  Cale jumped in the inflatable jump houses, did some art work, pinned the tail on the donkey and beat the #@(&$!& out of the pinata....candy was everywhere.

Sunday was the official birthday party.  This year was Scooby-Doo!  I love seeing Cale's face when he walks into the house and sees all of the decorating I do.  He absolutely loves it...it's completely worth all the time I put into it.  His favorite presents were the metal detector (from uncle Ryan), the magic show kit (from me) and the toy ball with a feather (from CoCo).  He thought it was hilarious CoCo got him a present that she could play with.

Finally, on Tuesday I surprised Cale at school with cupcakes.  He was worried I forgot that parents are supposed to bring in treats.

T Ball

Cale was in t-ball again this year....we did it in early May and found out that it can still be pretty chilly in May.  He did much better this year but still needs to work on a couple things: 1. listening to the coach, 2. not getting ticked when he doesn't get the ball and 3. not being a ball hog.  HA!

Spring Concert

In April, Cale had a spring concert at Southdale.  He was so excited about it that he gave me a preview at home.  During the program he kept looking at me -- he was smiling, being silly and laughing.

Weekend with Lily

Wow....I've really been slacking when it comes to Cale's blog.  Guess that means we are too busy or I'm just lazy.  Maybe a little of both?!

We spent a weekend in March in Des Moines with Kate, Ben and Lily.  Cale LOVES playing with Lily.  We had crab rangoon pizza at Fong's Pizza & Tiki bar in Des Moines.  It....was....amazing!  Afterwards we headed to the Science Center of Iowa.  They had a lot of cool dinosaur displays and fun interactive things to do.  Our next stop was at Raygun.  I bought a UNI shirt ("There's No Place Like Dome; Cedar Falls, IA).  Cale and Lily each got a cat shirt...which they loved.

I made the cover of Time magazine!

Wow...I made the cover...."Chosen Mother-of-the Year"!  But it gets better.  Here's what Cale had to say about me:

"My mom's name is Jen.  I don't know how old she is.  She has like short hair and she has green eyes and she has small ears.  She likes to wear high heel shoes and she likes to wear red shirts.  She likes to wear jeans.  She works in an office.  She like texts people at her office.

I see my mom eat a lot of breakfast.  She likes to eat pancakes and waffles.  Her favorite color is pink.  She likes a lot of restaurants like Texas Roadhouse and Pizza Hut.  She likes to drink water.  She likes to lay in her bed a lot when I am not with her.  She likes to talk to her friends and have drinks with them.  They like to drink water.  She likes to laugh with her friends.

I like to have fun with my mom.  I like when she has surprises for me.  My best surprise was when she decorated for my birthday.  I like to play with my mom.  We play games together and play with  my cat.  I like when my mom takes me to Carlos O Kelly's.  I like to help my mom with hard things and heavy things.

My mom is special because she likes to laugh with me.  She takes care of me.  I love her because she is special.  I like that she makes me lots of different recipes.  I love you mom."
