Cale, my mom and I spent 5 days in Missouri in August. Our 1st stop was Hannibal...we headed out to the Mark Twain Cave (Mark Twain played in this cave as a child and is talked about in his book...it was also the hide-out of Jesse James), took a trolley tour of the town and learned a lot about the history and story of Mark Twain, saw the Mark & Huck statue, saw Molly Brown's house (the unsinkable Molly Brown), spent some time at Riverview park and even got to paint the famous white fence in his book.
Our next stop was St. Louis....with Cale and my mom reading the map, I didn't know if we were going to make it. We had so much fun with all the things St. Louis has to offer. We went on a Haunted Ghost tour (it was awesome), we toured the city on a trolley, took a ride on the Tom Sawyer river boat, visited the Old Court House (some guy asked Cale to take his picture for him...it was hilarious because Cale did try) and went up in the Arch (of course!). Cale took a test and was sworn in as an official Jr. Park Ranger. Cale also tried Sushi and really liked it. My mom wouldn't try it so Cale was giving her a hard time.
We spent hours at the City Museum and this was Cale's favorite part of the trip. The Museum is housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company. It's an eclectic mixture of children’s playground and funhouse. It features old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, a school bus hanging off the top of the building (you can go in it) miles of tile, slides, tunnels, ferris wheel and even two abandoned planes.
Our final few stops of the trip were at the St. Louis Zoo, the Science Center (Cale and I went into a machine and experienced different type of weather) and finally, the nightly lantern lighting at the arboretum. Cale pretended he was our tour guide at the arboretum...he even used quotes from the Ghost tour we went on. It was cute...he said, "if you see a guy chasing you with a chainsaw, you need to run because it's not part of this tour".
